Book Boyfriend Review: Max Manning is Magnificent

young man with dark wavy hair and blue eyes. character imagining of max manning from catch the sun

I was absolutely captivated by this novel. Ella is a social outcast because of her brother sitting on death row for a double homicide. Max Manning comes along and accepts her as she is, proving to her she is worth acceptance and much more.

Reasons to love him:

  1. He saved her life when she was about to let herself drown and then wrote her a list on why she should keep persevering. (And he continued writing her lists <3 )
  2. Clarified to her that he wasn’t taking another girl to the dance when his brother tried to make it sound that way. I loved that even though they weren’t a couple yet he still wanted his feelings towards her to be clear.
  3. He held her hand while star gazing, danced with her on the bridge and played silly childhood games that reminded her of her brother.
  4. Asked about her brother and dad, wanting to know the good things/memories she had with them despite everyone around them being focused on the negative. He gave her a safe space to express her conflicting feelings.
  5. Visited her everyday at the hospital and was incredibly patient as she healed and was closed off. He even sacrificed a couple years apart from her so she could work through her issues.

“There’s a place for you Ella. I have all the room for you if this is where you want to be.”

“I give her my all. My whole heart. My life. I’m hers and she’s mine whether she lets herself believe it or not.”

“My muse feels distant. But then, so do you. Come back to me.”
