Top 10 books from Colleen Hoover: A Must-Read List for Fans
1. Maybe Someday
After finding out her boyfriend is cheating, Sydney needs a new place to stay ASAP. Her guitar playing neighbour she has admired from afar offers to help. Ridge is hard of hearing and has a long time girlfriend yet there is an undeniable connection between him and Sydney. Feelings need to stay platonic but can you really deny the connection of a lifetime?
This book made me question myself – like ‘is it really cheating if this girl is clearly his soulmate?’. I was so conflicted rooting for them while also condemning Ridge for falling for someone else while in a relationship. I loved that this book challenged my feelings and thoughts while also being such an endearing and heartwarming story.
2. Hopeless
Sky is a girl with a reputation that seems to have been sheltered for most of her life. She goes through life feeling numb and is desperate to experience life outside the four walls of her home. Holder comes along and makes her feel special, reassuring her of her worth. But this young love is shadowed with secrets that may tear them apart.
This story had a shocking twist that brought me to tears. That’s all I’ll say.
3. Confess
Owen has people leaving confessions (based on true ones actually given to the book’s author) at his gallery that he turns into art. Auburn has suffered a devastating loss young in life and is struggling with the aftermath. Should she give love a second chance when her life is already complicated? Perhaps destiny is already at play bringing Owen into her life…
This book made me cry over and over. If young love, life after loss and taking chances pull at your heart string then this is for you.
4. Heart Bones
Beyah has grown up with a life of poverty and neglect when she comes across her opposite in Samson. They both seem to have a sadness buried within them that draws them together. They agree to a summer fling but is that all it can be? What about the skeletons Samson has in his closet?
I loved that appearances aren’t always what they seem to be with this book. There was a decent twist at the end and a happily ever after worth waiting for.
5. It Ends With Us
Lily found love at a young age until she never saw him again. Years later she falls in love with Ryle when she runs into her first love, Atlas. Can they get reacquainted and stay strictly friends? What if Atlas notices a darkness in Ryle and wants to save Lily? What do you do when your heart is torn in two directions?
Regardless of the drama surrounding the movie, I loved the book. Was writing to Ellen a little strange? Maybe, but who wasn’t weird or awkward in when they were young? This book had me thinking and empathizing with situations I’ve never been in and is a part of why I got back into reading.
6. Slammed
Will and Layken become neighbours and have instant chemistry but the problem comes when she sees Will at school Monday morning as a teacher. Although they’re 21 and 18 years their relationship is taboo and needs to be pushed back to platonic. But can they really settle for friends only?
Like Maybe Someday, this book had me questioning my morals – like ‘it can’t be bad if they’re not actually far apart in age right? So what if he’s a teacher?’
7. Verity
Lowen is hired to finish the books of a famous author that is unable to complete them herself. She battles her attraction to the author’s husband Jeremy, a caring and attractive man that is struggling with the death of his daughter. When Lowen discovers a manuscript that wasn’t meant to ever be found and it sheds light on his daughter’s death she must decide – does she share it with this damaged man or keep it to herself? With the wife just upstairs, situations escalate and Lowen must make hard decisions.
This book has a darker feel to it and it’s not really the romance that mattered to me but the mystery and the various opinions people have on the true meaning of the ending.
8. Reminders of Him
If you went to prison for an accident, would you deserve a second chance? What if you devastated a town and caused irreparable damage to those who were once close to you? Kenna is faced with an uphill battle in order to reconnect with her daughter in a town of people that have no use for her. Are people redeemable or are there things that truly can’t be forgiven?
I bawled this whole book. It was so thought provoking and had me questioning myself, like could I forgive this person? Is what she did understandable? I love a book that has depth on top of a great romance.
9. November 9
Ben and Fallon both struggle with the memories of November 9th. After meeting in a restaurant and spending one incredible day together they agree to meet up on this day every year afterwards. They fall for each other but Fallon doesn’t know Ben has secrets that could ruin everything, so is it worth the risk?
The plot is not for everyone. It’s something I consider “in book world it works” – like I’m not going to take it as guidance for life or the type of behaviour I’ll accept from a man but it is very interesting.
10. Too Late
Sloan is putting herself in danger being with a notorious drug trafficker in order to take care of her brother. When undercover agent Carter comes into the picture, things become even more complicated. The attraction is there and Carter knows Sloan isn’t mean to be in the drug world, but can he save her?
This isn’t a complete 5 star read for me but I did still enjoy it! It’s something a little different from her other books and was intriguing.
